Transitional
Rising from the ashes of various Boston area projects and personas, Transitional were composed of restless siblings Ryan and Erin Klauk, and their compatriots, Justin Fox and Tony Downs. Musically inspired by bands like Unwound, Satisfact, and Joy Division, they were fascinated with the concepts of postmodern world building and film noir decadence.
Incredibly motivated to reinvent themselves, Fox and Klauk became AOL pen pals with their favorite west coast second wave emo bands and planned what would become a dream come true, west coast tour, with Nuzzle and Strictly Ballroom. After the tour, Transitional relocated to Seattle and Downs was replaced on drums by Brian Tamborello from Strictly Ballroom. Their 1999 album, The People Vs. Transitional, was recorded by Bobby Nath of Mars Accelerator, and released on CD by Bay Area label Sound On Sound.
After several additional west coast tours Transitional eventually imploded in spectacular yet anticlimactic fashion. There is more to their story, but The People Vs. Transitional is a great place to start.
