JR Ewing

JR Ewing

JR Ewing was a highly influential Norwegian hardcore/post-hardcore band from Oslo, active from 1998 to 2006, known for their intricate, aggressive sound blending technicality with raw emotion, inspiring many later bands.

Their sound was a mix of aggressive, angular screamo/post-hardcore evolving into more melodic, complex noise-rock, drawing comparisons to At the Drive-In, Refused, Drive Like Jehu, and Hot Snakes. Their later material introduced elements reminiscent of Built to Spill or even Mike Patton's diverse vocals, featuring clean vocals, dueling guitars, and atmospheric effects.

They recorded for labels such as.....and shared stages with the likes of The Locust, Switchblade, Coheed + Cambria, The Mars Volta, Antony & The Johnsons, High On Fire, The Dillinger Escape Plan, TV on the Radio, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Blood Brothers, Turbonegro, and more.

In 2024 the band partnered with Thirty Something Records from Berlin to begin work on a vinyl discography documenting the band's material. Solid Brass teamed up with Thirty Something Records in early 2026 to help distribute JR Ewing's material in the US.
